Ivanov Alexander Alexandrovich (1909-1976) –was a Russian poet. Though A.A.Ivanov’s first poems appeared in 1925, he started his serious and systematic literary career only in 1929. In 1938 his poem “Mother” was published, and a new collection called “Poems” appeared in a year. During the Great Patriotic War A.A.Ivanov participated in the battles at the Karelian and 2nd Byelorussian fronts, then he served in the soviet forces in Germany. After demobilization A.A.Ivanov returned to Petrozavodsk. In 1949 he was elected an executive secretary of the Writers’ Union of Karelia. Later on he was a plenipotentiary of the Karelian Literary fund of the USSR. 14 A.A.Ivanov’s books including collections of poems “My Native Land”, “A World Above the Woods”, “Karelia, My Love”, “My Path”, books for children, essays and plays were published after the war. A theme of the native northern land and Karelia runs all through his works. A.A.Ivanov is also known as a playwright. He wrote the plays “It was in Karelia”, “Freedom Square”, “Immortal Stars” (in co- authorship with G.Grakov). He took part in working on screen scripts of the films “Karelian-Finnish SSR” and “Petrozavodsk” screened by a film studio “Lenfilm” and ”Leningrad newsreel” in the beginning of the fifties. Such composers as N.Levi, Yu.Zaritsky, R.Pergament, K.Rautio, L.Teplitsky and others set some A.A.Ivanov’s verses to music.
